Post Surgical Rehabilitation

Post surgical rehabilitation is very important to supporting a successful surgery and returning you to your prior level of function, whether that includes getting back on the playing field, or walking to your favorite coffee shop.

When you come to Keating Physical Therapy, we will perform a thorough evaluation and will communicate with your surgeon regarding protocols to be followed during your rehab. In the early phase of post surgical rehab we will focus on decreasing pain and swelling, while regaining range of motion. We will use manual techniques such as soft tissue mobilization, gentle stretching, and modalities as needed.

Depending on your surgery, the next phase of rehabilitation includes progressively loading the healing joint and surrounding tissues as well as restoring normal biomechanics. This will include strengthening the surrounding muscles, balance, and proprioceptive training.

Finally, once you have demonstrated proper strength and biomechanics, we can introduce light plyometrics and include sport specific strengthening. You will feel strong and confident.

Below we have listed many common reasons for surgery.  However, there are many different types of injuries and this is not and inclusive list.  If you have specific questions about your injury please feel free to give us a call at (908) 276-0294.
